Free Music Identification Software For Your Computer, Blackberry Or iPhone

Posted on May 19, 2018 in Uncategorized

Free music identification software(search engines) comes in several different platforms, operating under several different parameters depending on your needs. It can be be windows/Macintosh compatible via download, it can be web based via your browser, or it can be downloaded to your cell phone, particularly iPhone or blackberry.

But why would I want or need it? What does it do? How does it work?

All great questions which I will endeavor to answer. In a nutshell, this software enables you to obtain the title, artist, and album name for a song you’ve heard/are hearing but don’t know.

Let’s say in the process of recording for example internet radio(which I happen to do a lot), you may have been multitasking and weren’t as mindful of the track info as you should, and missed it. Music identification software can help obtain this for you.

You may be driving, and hear a song on the radio. Open the cell phone app, and hold your phone near a speaker for 10+ seconds or so, and the app will name it for you.

What if you can only hum, whistle, or sing a part of the song?…to quote the t.v. commercial “There’s an app for that”, and it’s not only for the iPhone.

You can also clean up misnamed/unnamed tracks in your music library.

This kind of software works by enabling you to access a particular music database. Digital music, or music in general has a signature which is called a “fingerprint”, which the software can read, and then compare with what is contained in its’ aforementioned database. The fingerprint can be based on parameters such as: melody(voice), rhythm,a sample played on a virtual instrument, melodic contour, beat/tapping et.al. It can then relay that info on to you…and the kicker is they’re mostly free!

However, let’s not get too excited and infer too rosy a picture. All the software/databases have limitations, and areas of specialty. These are after all just some more tools, albeit very useful ones.

Two Awesome Music Apps For the iPhone

Posted on May 2, 2018 in Uncategorized

I have been using an iPhone for more than two and a half years. During that time, I have tried literally hundreds of Apps. In this article, I’d like to tell you about two of my favorite music Apps, Shazam and Pandora.

Shazam is an App that uses the built-in microphone of the iPhone to “listen” to a 15-second clip of music. It then sends this clip over the cellular network and within a few seconds tells you the name of the song, the album, and the artist. I love this App and use it all the time. Two of my favorite places to use it is when I am in the car or in a restaurant and I hear I song that I can’t place. Rather than arguing with my friends about who the artist is, I let my iPhone tell me.

The other App which is awesome is Pandora. This program discovers new musical artists for you that you might never have heard of by “learning” your tastes in music. Pandora will play a song for you, and you can either give the song a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Over time, the App learns what type of music you like so that it can give you song after song of music that you like. When I have found a new artist that I like, I can then go to YouTube or iTunes to listen to more of their songs. It’s great!

The iPhone can be a powerful tool for helping you to identify and discover new music that you otherwise never would have been aware of. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you’ve got to check out these free Apps.

The Top 5 Free BlackBerry Apps For 2010

Posted on April 17, 2018 in Uncategorized

Ever since the iPhone introduced the app store, the demand for smart phone applications has gone through the roof. Each new smart phone that is now released is expected to have the extensibility support for apps, and that is no different for the current players such as the BlackBerry.

BlackBerry apps have become more popular over the recent months with the growing functionality of the iPhone pushing its rivals to go the extra mile. But with so many iPhone and BlackBerry apps available, which is the best?

Below are the top 5 free BlackBerry apps for 2010.

1. BlackBerry App World – The BlackBerry App World application personalises your smart phone with social networking, games and much more. Although quite an obvious choice, the App World application allows you to download new apps straight from your smart phone. Much like the iPhone App Store, this application exists to make it much easier for people to download apps without the need to hunt around the web to find them. A must have.

2. Qik – This app has been around a while, but Qik really is an excellent app to have. With video streaming becoming increasingly popular in 2010, Qik allows you to stream video straight to the web for your friends and family to see while in action. You are able to stream or download the videos from the Qik website, and it has complete social networking integration for websites such as Twitter and YouTube.

3. Foursquare – If you haven’t heard of Foursquare then you must have been living under a Internet shaped rock for the past few months. The basic premise of Foursquare is that it is a social networking website with a difference. Users access Foursquare from different places using the BlackBerry app, and it uses GPS to identify your current location. With each check in you earn points, and more points are awarded for being advantageous (ie: exploring lots of places in one day). This is one of those games that you have to experience for yourself – and it is definitely worth it.

4. Flixster Movies – If you are a big movie fan then this app should be perfect for you. Movies by Flixster is an app that allows you to watch high quality movie trailers, get details of the latest movies, read reviews and much more. The app is very user friendly and contains details relevant to the UK, Canada and the United States.

5. Pandora – Similar to Last.fm, Pandora is a personalised radio app that allows you to play all of your favourite artists and also related songs and albums. You are able to select your favourite artists in Pandora, and relevant recommended songs will be provided to you.
